Mount Trashmore.........

Yes, this picture-a-week is not working as easily as I'd thought. This taken at Mount Trashmore. And, yes, this used to be the main trash dump for Virginia Beach. One day they decided to cover it over and make a "park" out of it. Actually, it seems to have worked out pretty well. They occasionally even have a concert here. There were/are some skeptics. My grandmother used to say, "Who wants to sit on a pile of trash and listen to that awful rock and roll music."

More Images From the Past!

I encouraged my pal Eddie, to try to take a snap a week. Actually, tried this a couple of times.... And, it surely didn't last long. This was about 2001. Here are a few.....

Bessie, a delightful lady who worked in an old-timey drugstore in a small city in Maryland. Yes, stopped by for a nice lunch. I had a real open-face-turkey sandwich. Many years ago.....

Smithfield, Virginia, many years ago. A festival of sorts.

This is a lady who works at Tony's Hotdogs. Tony's is a well-known place in our community. Yes, great hotdogs.

There's a Dale Earnhardt photo hanging.

A local car show. Guys love to look at engines.

Snaps From the Past......

We are lucky to have the USS Wisconsin make its home here in Norfolk. People often relate length to how many football fields something is long. I don't know how long a football field is, but at over 880 feet the Wisconsin is surely longer.

The ladies at work are pretty good about letting me take their pictures. In fact, if it were true that taking a person's picture steals their soul, all the ladies at work would now be soulless.

I took this picture at The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, Virginia. Yes, I know it is a cliché snap. Yes, I know many photographers have one of these around. Yes, I know this is not an original or unique idea; however, I like this picture. The Chrysler is a terrific place to wander around for a few hours, or a place that you can run in and spend a few minutes at your favorite place. The Chrysler has a nice permanent photography collection as well as terrific photography exhibitions; some I've seen over the past year or so include, Ernest Whithers, James Agee, and Larry Clark. Most of the time it's not crowded and it's a place where you won’t feel rushed. It’s a great place to visit, whether a few minutes or several hours. We’re lucky to have the Chrysler here in Norfolk

I recently bought a car from this lady. She made it painless and the price was more than fair. I took this when I stopped by to have the oil changed.

I met this gentleman while wandering the streets of Norfolk searching for a picture. Sadly, I didn't do him justice.

Take the "Snap" While it's There. If You Snooze You May Lose.....

A snap from many years ago.

I thought this was pretty interesting considering the little sign next to the billboard. Most books and articles on photography always emphasize taking a picture when you see it. Yep, get it while it's there. I had looked at this sign for several weeks thinking there'd be some kind of picture to be had. These God signs were scattered all over the city with different sayings. Two days after I took this photo the sign was painted over with an ad for a phone company. Lesson learned?

PETA Demonstration Norfolk, Virginia October 2000

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is headquartered here in Norfolk, Virginia. A couple of times a year locally and quite a few other times nationally, PETA has these demonstrations whose theme is Human Skin In Animal Skin Out. Yes, as the pictures show these ladies only have on stockings and underpants. Yes, they are topless; pretty surprising, huh? This demonstration was October 21, 2000; and, yes, it was pretty chilly. These ladies and the gentleman are truly dedicated. The police were standing by I assume in case there were any problems with the local citizens. There were none. As it was Saturday and the demonstration was near MacArthur's Mall, the traffic was heavy. Nope, no problems at all. Yes, most of the folks driving by did gawk a little. I encourage you to take a look at the PETA site. Hey, maybe you'll forego a couple of steak dinners. NOTE: Contax G2 28MM Kodak 400 B&W C41  Photographers, please note: The composition is what it is; however, I used the cheapest scanner to scan the photos and little PP. Yes, the snaps are pretty crummy looking.

Yes, a tough duty assignment but someone had to do it!
And, yes, I knew the cops.....
